About Me

Let me take you back to 1986. Nintendo was just released in the United States of America. My mother said that she bought one for my sister(who is 7 years my senior) and I. Only I remember standing in my sister’s room, 4 years old, just watching my mother hog the game console. She’d yell at the TV screen, playing Super Mario Brothers. She would make the “Pew! Pew! Pew!” sound when she would shoot at the TV while playing Duck Hunt. That was all it took.

I grew up watching her play arcade games at the nearby laundry mat. Fight games were her specialty. She put a controller in my hand at home, and quarters in it to play Donkey Kong, Double Dragon, Street Fighter, and Ms. Pac-Man as soon as I could stand on a chair and play the arcade versions. She raised me on video games, comics, Barbie, all things Disney, fly sneakers, and Star Wars(which has manifested itself in my iconic home decor).

She was an excellent conversationalist, and she believed in what she called “opening her mouth”. Speaking up about what she wanted to accomplish and asking for help. She defended herself and her name by speaking out on racism, and won in a court of law. She taught me the importance of activism as a proud and active member for the Lupus community, a disease that she succumbed to back in ’99. She had a knack for speaking life into people. She made everybody feel at home, and that their seat at the table mattered.

Turning into my mother as I got older has landed me in Hustler Magazine as a streamer, on Comedy Central’s podcast with Roy Wood Jr. from the Daily Show, as a guest writer for a Sims Magazine, and it prompted me to make this blog.

My education is in Digital Marketing courtesy of Google which is a program that I highly encourage anyone who is interested in taking. I am also certified in the Science of Well Being from the Illustrious Yale University, and gaining a follow up certification in Behavioral Psychology to better help my readers. It taught me a lot on how we scientifically define our joy.

Motivating people and entertaining them is something that came naturally. You never know where life will take you if you just trust in the Universe. It led me to creating this site. I’ve always done things in honor of my mother. To know me is to understand who she was. So Vickie, this is for you. It’s also for my 20 something’s daughter who’s amazing at building in the Sims.
