It feels good to return to blogging after a much longer recovery time than anticipated. I had quite a while to think about future content during my brief hiatus. I also had time to watch an unreasonable amount of movies in between gaming sessions. So what does that have to do with anything? A ton.
I love gaming. Some of my earliest memories as a child were watching my mother hog our Super Nintendo as soon as they went on sale in the United States in 1986. It was supposed to be a gift for my older sister and I. However, I digress.
My second earliest memory(besides falling off of a coffee table that I had no business sitting on) was visiting my neighbor’s house. My sister had a best friend named Lucky who was seven years older than me like she was. Lucky looked how I would envision Spike Lee did when he was around 10 years old—thick black glasses included. Well, my sister would often have to drag me with her when she’d go visit him until I was old enough to not need supervision.
He had a sister who was the same age as I was, so at least I had company that was in my age group. We’d all stay up late to watch horror movies in their living room. It was reminiscent of a fortune teller’s parlor, with dark wood paneling walls, burgundy curtains, and a circular cherry wood table with a vase of artificial flowers on it. We’d watch Elvira’s Movie Macabre, Alfred Hitchcock Presents reruns, and episodes from the Twilight Zone 1980’s revival while we were up late on the weekends and summer months. I spent quite a few years watching our typical haunts on their floor television that I can still picture the living room well enough for the purpose of this blog. Then again, I do have a memory like a crow.
In that living room was when I can distinctly remember what my first horror movie was. It was the 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Who else can forget the iconic Freddy Krueger who was played by Robert Englund in the first original eight movies, killing teens in their dreams before they died in their real life? Movies took quite a while to reach television and VHS after their theatrical release. If I had to guess, I was 4 years old at the time of seeing Freddy Krueger slashing through the nightmares of the teens before picking them off like lint balls on a sweater. It’s crazy what you can piece together like a detective with the help of Google.
I’ve had a life-long love affair with gaming, but horror movies had my heart from the beginning. My uncle Martin(who’s an avid reader of my blogs) has always agreed that if I don’t know anything, I know what to eat and what to watch. My daughter is now in her 20s, and she feels the same way. Her first horror movie that she remembers happens to be A Nightmare of Elm Street. We even lived off of an Elm Street, but that’s a horror for another day. She acknowledged that I have an analytical mind that breaks down movies as if I studied them. So why not broaden my subject matter, and discuss them on my blog?
My most recent tiktok live stream spanned over 8 hours in duration. That’s a shift at a full-time job. We mostly discussed movies that my viewers want me to watch or review on my youtube that’s been sitting with 18.6k and not a nary update since the Great Depression. I promise to do better. Anyways. I ended up with a list of titles that was two pages in length from their suggestions.
Some of their ideas sucked peanut butter through a coffee stirrer. I appreciate them for banding together to help me come up with content idea that they look forward to making. Not every movie worth discussing isn’t always Oscar worthy. Some are dumpster classics, or at least are deserving of the “$5 bin”.
I lost a good 4k subscribers in my absence on youtube. One day we will discuss how I got banned from posting for 6 months, and only got my page back after I was forced to take a class. It included a test to make sure that I learned my lesson. I was heated at the moment, but now? I’m actually chuckling about the whole thing as I type this. Moving on.
I wanted to return to youtube full swing this year. Fortunately I still have a good 18k subscribers who remained. While a good deal of them aren’t active or weren’t seeing my three whole videos from last year, some acknowledged that they’d enjoy seeing some movie content. It actually got the biggest response that I’ve received there. Whodathunk?!
I do have horror and movie related blogs that I’ve finished, along with future topics that I look forward to discussing here. I’m not straying away from my gaming and streaming content. Just think of it as another layer of digital entertainment talks from yours truly. Not only will there be reviews, but we will discuss a ton of ways to make the most of your experience as a movie watcher. My social media followers probably saw this a mile away because I’ve amped up the horror movie reposts to let my inner “Final Girl Fury” shine.
Expect me to introduce some aspects of horror to my twitch streams. My fellow horror heads can look forward to movie nights, upcoming trailer reactions, horror discussions, and even some horror gaming streams on my channel. As if the bugs in my Sims 4 that would rear their ugly heads during my streams aren’t their own personal horror. We will tackle the blog before I crank out youtube content for the channel. I’m open to ideas!
Stick around! I would love to have you subscribe below to receive updates when there’s new content posted here. There’s so much in store! I look forward to having you join me as I take my my content to new heights. Follow me as furycutitout on social media and on twitch so I can tell my granddaddy that I made it.
